Let’s Get to Work.

A message from ProSearch’s President and Founder, Ed McKersie

I’ve been in the staffing and recruiting industry for over 30 years, and this is the most complicated job market I’ve dealt with in my career. It’s complicated because even before COVID, we had historically low unemployment rates in Maine and employers were struggling to find and retain employees. My industry grew rapidly as employers partnered with staffing firms and increasingly turned to what we call “temp to hire” to fill positions. This process benefits the job seeker and the prospective employer because they both have the opportunity to evaluate each other during the temporary assignment rather than making a hiring decision right away. Enter COVID, and employers also turned to staffing firms to hire temporary employees because of the uncertainty of their business plans.

I have called this job market “The Perfect Storm”. Low unemployment rates coupled with uncertainty from employers about when they will require employees to return to the office either full or part-time has led many potential job seekers to wait for clarity. Add in the fact that many of us have children who may or may not be going to school in person full time. It’s no wonder so many people who want to work are afraid to re-enter the job market. Who would want to start a new job only to learn after a few weeks that their child will need to stay home and go back to remote learning because of an outbreak in their school? There are other family commitments that have made it difficult for people to jump back in and look for a new job as well, and this too has caused many people to hesitate to explore their work options.

Our team at ProSearch understands the many factors that are adding to the fits and starts of this job market. Since we started in 1994, we have always put the desires and needs of our temporary and contract employees first. These employees work with our employer partners every day, and if they don’t feel fairly treated, it’s a reflection on all of us. Our reputation has been built on the trust our temporary and contract employees place in us, and in these unprecedented times, we will continue to work to earn that trust.

We understand that most people want to work and are struggling to find a way to re-enter the job market. Our team is here for you. We want to meet you where you are and discuss your own personal situation so we can help get you back to work. We continue to conduct virtual interviews, complete onboarding paperwork electronically, and while some of our clients may require onsite work, many job opportunities are remote. Our temporary staffing team has a record number of temporary and temp-to-hire opportunities throughout Maine, making NOW the time to explore your options.

Please visit our job board and view our current job openings. If you don’t see a position that appears to be a fit, fill out our easy form and upload your resume. We will then reach out and begin a conversation.
