Legal Director
Location: Hybrid (Augusta & Portland, Maine)
Salary: $84,000–$94,000 + generous benefits

About the Role:
Our trusted client seeks a Legal Director to lead litigation and legal services efforts in support of economic justice for low-income Mainers. This senior role is ideal for an experienced attorney with a passion for anti-poverty law, systemic change, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead impact litigation and legal strategy
  • Supervise attorneys and advocates; promote litigation skills development
  • Align legal services with policy and community advocacy
  • Support legislative and administrative advocacy with legal expertise
  • Represent clients and client groups in court and before agencies
  • Collaborate with legal service organizations and community stakeholders
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational leadership
Qualifications:
  • JD and member in good standing of a state and federal bar (Maine preferred)
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience (civil legal services, litigation, or policy work)
  • Experience with class action litigation (Rule 23)
  • Strong legal writing, supervision, and cross-sector collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of poverty law and trauma-informed legal practices
