Our client, a large, Maine-based bank, is seeking a Corporate Controller to add to their leadership team.
The Corporate Controller oversees and leads the Accounting and Financial Reporting team for the bank. In this role, the Corporate Controller is responsible for the books and records of the Company, including SEC and bank regulatory reporting; development, implementation and compliance with accounting and reporting policies and standards, including existing and new standards and requirements; development and enforcement of policies and internal controls that ensure integrity, meaningfulness, and accuracy of financial statements; and managing the corporate accounting function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions.
Oversee coordination and preparation of internal and external financial reporting, including complete and accurate financial statements and disclosures in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations. This includes filings of Form 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 3, 4 and 5, and any others as needed.
Oversee internal controls and SOX compliance within the Accounting department, including design, documentation, and operation, and assist in organizational internal controls compliance working closely with internal audit and other business lines.
Monitor, review, and assess impact of relevant FASB, SEC, and other regulatory guidance to ensure compliance. Work with external accountants, legal counsel, and regulators, as well as present at the Audit Committee. ? Oversee regulatory reporting, including reports to the FRB, FDIC and OCC, and tax planning and compliance
Oversee key corporate accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance and routine account reconciliations, accounts payable, fixed assets, and income taxes.
Maintain written policies and procedures related to Accounting and Financial Reporting functions. ? Ensures work is properly allocated and deadlines are met. Mentor and develop staff.
Lead a team of 7-10 employees in Accounting and Financial Reporting through the management of subordinate managers. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the team.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Successful candidates will have bachelor’s degree, and MBA (preferred but not required) and 5+ years of related experience in technical FASB, SEC, and SOX work. CPA or CMA is required.
Strong ability and experience reading and interpreting documents, including technical accounting and financial reporting documents, and operating and maintenance policies and procedures.
Strong ability to write internal and external reports and document accounting judgments, conclusions, and policies.
Strong ability to speak effectively before small to large groups of employees, including executive and senior management, and to members of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
This role will be based on-site in Camden, Maine. The ability to work 1 day a week remotely would be considered for desired candidates.
